Traditional Administration

The Onigogo

1. HRM Kabiyesi the Onigogo, the traditional head of the town presides over the Iwarefa and Onigogo-in-Council.

The Onigogo-in-Council

The Onigogo-in-Council are made of the Iwarefa group a number of high chiefs/chiefs drawn from different wards and assist in formulating and executing policies for the town.

Members of Iwarefa

Members of Iwarefa (the kingmakers) in order of rank are:

2. Obanla
3. Obaaro
4. Obasalu
5. Edemorun
6. Obalegosi
7. Obalowu
8. Ejemu
9. Odoka
10. Odofin


However, three other members were promoted into the Council by Kabiyesi Oba Orimogunje II in the 1970s. They are:

1. Asaba ~ The Chief Ifa Priest
2. Ajana
3. Edemo


Recently, the following members have been elected into the council:

1. Eisinkin
2. Eisaba
3. Elemikan

Each of them also function as head (leader) of the Olooguns, the soldiers responsible for defense in time of war.


There are however a group of three members that function as messengers to the King. They are:

1. Afin,
2. Asao, and
3. Ojoko.

Chief Sajuku, leader of all the Olooguns, is responsible to the above three.

Iare

Iare (Iware) serve as Special Assistants running errands for Kabiyesi as occasions demand and support Iwarefa in duty performance:

1. Oloriare – Chairman
2. Odogun – Member
3. Elemo – Member
4. Emila – Member
5. Osolo – Member
6. Alawe – Member


Three new positions were constituted to replace the three former positions occupied by Asaba, Ajana and Edemo.

7. Olowa replacing Asaba’s position
8. Obaolu replacing Ajana’s position
9. Olotin replacing Edemo’s position


Other Iware members are:

10. Oyefin
11. Obayele
12. Obalese
13. Obamila
14. Asaoye
15. Eisemo

The Olooguns

The Olooguns are for war fighting and often meet with the lwares. Members are:

1. Sajuku – Leader
2. Eisaya
3. Olukotun
4. Olukosi
5. Onibedo

Other Arms of Government

Esunegbe

Led by Eisinkin are responsible for fighting in the wars. i.e. they serve as combatant soldiers.

Eriegbe

Led by Elegbira, Elijofi and Eleekinran are responsible for clearing farm, road and manual work like sanitation within the town and so on.

Eleekan, Oloosiri and Oloode

These are emergency preparedness and response groups set up to counter any invasion of Igogo. They are like our present day anti-riot police.

Ekoorun

This group is at the bottom of the ladder. They were youths responsible for doing all forms of farms operations for the king excluding harvesting.

Late Chief Obalowu, John Ogungbe, was the last leader of this group before the group.
